Hydra+

ISO 4406 Particle Counting
Inline Oil Condition Monitoring Oil Quality Sensor Six Parameters. One Pass. Everything your oil is telling you. Hydra+ Viscosity. Density. Temperature. Water activity. Moisture in ppm. Dielectric constant. Six measurements that together define whether your oil is still fit to protect a $30,000-per-day engine. Measured simultaneously. Inline. Continuously. scroll to explore Signal Integration Two sensors. One clean output. The particle counter and the 6-in-1 sensor connect through a single Modbus hub. One RS-485 output to your PLC, IPC, or SENSYN ASTER platform. No separate interfaces. No integration complexity. Everything HYDRA+ knows, delivered through one connection. Your system oil is sampled once every 90 days. In between, contamination enters, develops, and damages — invisibly. HYDRA+ closes that window. Continuous, inline, ISO-standard particle counting. Not a faster lab. A different signal entirely. Hire me What the lab misses, HYDRA+ catches.
A lab sample is a single point in time. HYDRA+ reads particles from 1 to 100 µm continuously — detecting contamination as it develops, not weeks after it already has. ISO 4406 and NAS 1638 codes, delivered in real time, directly from the operating oil.

Main Engine · Servo Oil · Hydraulic Oil

Nothing about your
main engine oil
goes unnoticed.

HYDRA+ monitors your ME electronic engine’s servo oil and MECC continuously — ISO 4406 particle count, density, viscosity, base number, water and fuel contamination. Inline. In real time. Without interruption.

The problem

Your main engine runs
on clean oil — or it doesn’t run.

ME electronic engines — ME-C and ME-B — rely on servo oil to actuate the fuel injection valves. FIVA and ELVA are hydraulically operated. When particle contamination exceeds ISO 4406 limits, these precision components begin to degrade. The wear is invisible. The consequences are not.

Conventional sampling visits your servo oil weeks apart. In between, your engine runs blind. A particle count exceedance can build, circulate, and score valve faces before the next sample arrives. By then, you are looking at FIVA spares — at best — or an engine slowdown that puts you off-hire.

What HYDRA+ monitors

Three dimensions of your oil.
Watched simultaneously.

HYDRA+ measures across three distinct oil health dimensions — inline, in real time, without removing a single sample.

Cleanliness

ISO 4406
Particle Count

Particles counted and classified at 4, 6, and 14 micron channels. Cleanliness level reported to ISO 4406 standard — the language your classification society speaks. When the number moves, you see it immediately.

Early warning against engine slowdown and off-hire

Degradation

Density, Viscosity
& Base Number

Oil degrades before it contaminates. Viscosity shifts, density changes, and base number depletion are the earliest indicators that something is changing inside your MECC. HYDRA+ tracks all three — continuously — so the trend is visible weeks before a lab result would show it.

Prevent asset damage and optimise oil change intervals

Contamination

Water & Fuel
Ingress Detection

Dissolved and free water measured continuously. Fuel dilution tracked in real time. Both contamination events degrade oil film strength and accelerate wear — and both develop silently between sampling intervals. HYDRA+ gives you the full picture, always.

Catch contamination before it reaches your FIVA valves

System architecture

From engine room
to your superintendent’s inbox.

Two components. One cable. Complete visibility — onboard and on shore.

HYDRA+ system architecture — sensor to shore
HYDRA+ Sensor Pack → Junction Box → SENSYN PC → Shore via WAN

Engine room

HYDRA+ Sensor Pack

Installed on the ME electronic engine — downstream or upstream of the super fine filter (6/10 micron). Measures continuously. Sends data to the junction box.

Engine room

Junction Box

Houses power supply and communication hardware. Installed away from the engine — away from heat and vibration. Onboard data visualisation displayed here.

Engine control room

SENSYN PC / Onboard PC

ASTER runs on the SENSYN-provided PC in the ECR. Full dashboards, trend charts, alarm history, and automated reports — visible onboard at all times, with or without internet.

Shore

WAN to ASTER Cloud

When internet is available, data transmits to ASTER Cloud. Your shore team — and the SENSYN SENTINEL team — see live vessel data, receive alerts, and produce intelligence reports.

Installation

One decision.
Downstream or upstream.

HYDRA+ installs on the super fine filter (6/10 micron filter) of the ME hydraulic system — either downstream or upstream, depending on what you need to see.

Downstream of SFF

Measures the oil quality reaching your FIVA and ELVA valves — post-filtration. This is the true cleanliness of the oil entering the most precision-critical components on the engine. Any exceedance here is an immediate action item.

Typical ISO reading (6 µm channel): 16 — target cleanliness confirmed by filter

Upstream of SFF

Measures the system load — the particle burden the super fine filter is handling. Trending this upstream count reveals filter saturation, contamination ingress events, and tells you when your SFF element needs replacement before it bypasses.

Typical ISO reading (6 µm channel): 19–21 — showing what the filter is catching

Most operators install downstream for valve protection monitoring. The upstream position is added when comprehensive filter health tracking is required. SENSYN will advise the optimal configuration for your engine type.

What happens next

Data is only useful
when it tells you what to do.

HYDRA+ feeds every reading into ASTER. When a parameter moves outside its threshold, the SENSYN shore team doesn’t forward an alarm — they diagnose it. Every alert comes with a specific, actionable recommendation for your technical superintendent.

If ISO count rises

SFF filter element check

Inspect and replace super fine filter spares. Check filter differential pressure. Review purifier mode of operation. Act before valve wear begins.

If viscosity or BN shifts

Purifier mode adjustment

Adjust purifier maintenance schedule and operating mode. Optimise oil condition before degradation reaches the point of component impact. No guesswork — data-driven timing.

If exceedance persists

FIVA / ELVA spares review

Plan and procure FIVA or ELVA spares at scheduled port call — not on emergency pricing after a slowdown. This is the difference between a maintenance event and an off-hire event.
